Whisky Cheddar Cheese Burgers

Grilled whisky cheddar cheese burgers

Looking for the perfect burger recipe? My whisky cheddar cheese burgers are juicy, smokey, a little bit spicy and of course stuffed (and topped!) with cheese!

I love burgers. All burgers are great, but this recipe will give you an ultimate burger worthy of showing off at your next BBQ or gathering.  Or maybe you just want a really good burger. And like me you’re firing up the grill on a cold January day to get a taste of that awesome summer BBQ (even if its snowing outside)! Either way, if you’re looking for a mouth-watering, amazing burger, this whisky cheddar cheese burger is it!

I use lean ground beef to make my burgers. I find it’s the perfect balance between being slightly healthier, but still plenty juicy to make a melt in your mouth burger. I also like using a bold chipotle BBQ sauce to get that smokey flavour that just makes for a really great burger. I added a spiced harvarti cheese to melt over top of my burger. You can never go wrong with extra, melted cheesy goodness! A fried egg or avocado (or both!) also make for excellent toppings.

Total Time
25 mins
Servings: 4 burgers
  • 1 egg
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 onion finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup cheddar cheese grated
  • 2/3 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup whisky
  • 1/4 cup bbq sauce
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 3/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tbsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne
  1. Lightly oil grill and heat to medium-high.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk the egg. Add the ground beef and sprinkle remaining ingredients over top.

Mix gently until combined. Don't overwork the beef as it will make for a tougher burger.

  3. Form into four patties. Press your thumb into the center of each patty to create a small depression (this helps to prevent bulging as they cook).

  4. Place burgers on grill and cook about 6 minutes per side, flipping once.

Try not to press down on the burgers while cooking, this will only squeeze out the delicious juices!

Add extra cheese on top in the last minute of cooking so it will melt over the top of the burgers.

  5. Serve on buns and add your favourite toppings! Enjoy!
